There is a group in Shaftesbury that's been going for 6 years, called Hilltop Litter Pickers. We collect litter round the town on the first and third Wednesdays of the month and have collected over 3000 black bags full in that time. The Town Council are planning a month's 'Spring Clean' from the end of March to the end of April. Ty Crook from HLP has got involved and together with the Council is planning a litter picking day, probably on April 13th, with as many children (and their parents) from the local schools as possible joining in.
