New Agenda Items for Discussion:

North Dorset Nature Connections

Dorset Wildlife Trust has selected five towns in Dorset, including Shaftesbury, and wants to focus on wildlife connections between urban and countryside. Two women (Niki and Sophie) have been attending the SuSAC meetings.

Christina suggested that one of the women come and talk to Planet Shaftesbury. The reason for this is that North Dorset is the most nature-depleted area in all of Dorset. They have funding for a 10-month development phase. This will increase to £1.5 million over five years. Rachel suggested this could overlap with our food interest; we could invite some of our local regenerative farms to meet them and connect them.

Christina said that Sophie really wants to meet other groups – e.g. the Swift group etc.

Rachel asked if the timescale was important. Christina said the development phase runs from now to February 2027, then there is a delivery phase, if awarded the next stage, from July 2027 to June 2032.

Agreed that we would ask Sophie and Niki to come to one of the PS meetings to meet us and see what the next steps might be.

ACTION: Rachel to check Grosvenor availability

ACTION:  Christina to talk to Sophie and get some dates

ACTION: Christina to write something for the newsletter about this

Kenson’s Farm Visit

Previously arranged farm visit – this was cancelled due to the heat.

Robin has been in touch to organise another visit.

General feeling was that people would like to go and rearrange.

New dates agreed to try and request are: 30th July, 4th August, 6th August.

About Us Diagram from Rachel

Rachel is thinking about what we should say on the website about how we work. The reality is that we don’t really know how we work.

Rachel suggested we use the newsletter more for messaging, linking to blog posts. Ed supported this idea.

Rachel highlighted the importance of putting all our events on the website as people may go there to find something else. Rachel pointed out that the latest poster for Rave On For The Avon had no Planet Shaftesbury branding and the QR code went to an external booking system which meant people missed the PS website.

DECISION: Always use QR codes for the PS website events – can still have links to external booking systems.

Rave On For The Avon

Jenni is bringing the film ready for next Thursday.

Karen is leading a River Walk for the Fringe. This will advertise the film as well.

ACTION: John to talk after the film about river testing and how to get involved.

ACTION:Karen to speak at the end of the film.

ACTION: Karen to ask Keggie Carew, author of Beastly, to come to the film and potentially speak.

The QR code on the poster doesn’t work.

ACTION: Ed to redo the poster

Donations

Karen reported that the PayPal account was never going to work.

Robin suggested we look at other providers.

Ed realised that we could potentially use Wix.

ACTION: Ed to investigate Wix.

PowerStation film follow-up

On hold until Jenni is around.

New Editor For Newsletter

Robin asked for volunteers for the Newsletter.

John volunteered.
