About the Event

From Zero Carbon Dorset

Join us next Thursday to find out more and join the debate.

Our monthly on-line discussions for 2023 begin next Thursday 23rd February at 7.30 pm when we'll be delving into our Buy Better - Waste Nothing chapter with a focus on the circular economy.

As we outlined in our Dorset 2030 report, we live in a throw away society. We need an urgent change to manufacturing from a linear to a circular economy so that products are used for longer and can be easily repaired before being turned into new products at their end of their useful life. As consumers we need help to make the right choices about what we buy, taking into account where the product is made, what it is made from, who made it and how to dispose of it properly.

In Dorset the amount of household waste is on the rise, and recycling rates have stalled. There are signs of an emerging circular economy but not at the pace we need to help consumers make more informed choices about what they buy. The amount of litter on our streets and in our rivers and seas is also getting worse.

However, the solutions to our waste addiction are with us now; we just need to change the mindset of businesses and people to go beyond feeling good about recycling.

Come along to our webinar and hear inspiring stories about how we can all play our part in tackling the waste issue and discuss how we can help Dorset become a healthier and happier place to live.

Speakers included:

Linda Bunting - who will talk about the work of Wimborne War on Waste and plastic free communities

Jenny Morisetti - who will talk about how to wean ourselves off fast fashion.
