About the Event
Cordelia Rowlatt of Vallis Veg (http://vallisveg.co.uk/) is visiting Shaftesbury Homegrown (SHG, the community farm) - providing an opportunity to share experience and information about current farming practice and hear about her Eco-Farm Future ideas. There are two similar events during her visit, one in the morning, one in the afternoon.
Each event takes place outdoors with a chance to accompany Cordelia on a community farm walkabout, followed by further discussion. Please dress warmly with stout shoes or boots and feel free to bring your own flask/hot drink.
Cordelia's style is informal and interactive and you will get brief descriptions of the different set-ups at Homegrown and Vallis Veg, and of the opportunities for additional people to work on the land at Homegrown. There will be more information about, and discussion of, Cordelia's vision for a community of small, independent ecofarms which would enable people and the land to be productive while also increasing biodiversity, living and farming in a climate friendly way, and benefitting not just the farmers but also the broader community. (More details of both Vallis Veg & the Eco-Farm Future ideas are on their website http://vallisveg.co.uk/)
Sunday mornings usually see some community farm volunteers onsite and Shaftesbury Homegrown is inviting others with an interest in the community farm, or additional opportunities to work alongside it, to join the morning session with them and Cordelia. (11-1pm).
After a lunch break, at 2pm Cordelia will repeat the session for others and she's particularly keen to meet people whose primary interest may be in establishing their own eco-farm, or in encouraging opportunities for new eco-farms closer to Shaftesbury.
How to book? Numbers are being limited so that everyone can hear & be safe. Please reserve your place by registering with Eventbrite using this link.
There's no charge and you won't need a ticket, we'll check names as you arrive. Donations will be invited for Cordelia's expenses. We discourage car use but if you need to drive please park away from Shaftesbury Homegrown. If you have questions about these practicalities please email planetshaftesbury@gmail.com
NB. These events will both move to 20th March if the weather is just too awful. All those who have registered will receive an email beforehand to confirm the February date or notify them of the change.
