About the Event
Shaftesbury Hedgehog Group includes local people who offer shelter to hedgehogs in need of rescue - but they can't always provide the specialist care needed. Please support this Dorset Mammal Group initiative to establish a local hedgehog hospital.
Meanwhile - what can you do to be more hedgehog friendly?
PROVIDE shallow dishes of water – bird bath
NO slug pellets - they can be fatal. Hedgehogs eat insects, slugs too, and need unkempt areas in which to feed and long grass in which to lie up during the day.
CHECK long grass by gently prodding with a stick before strimming or mowing.
MAKE log piles around the edge of gardens and allotments where they can hide and feed.
HOLES 5 inches/13cms square in fences to enable them to travel long distances at night in search of food.
BUILD a box or make a cavity under a shed
