About the Event

Creatively mend your clothing by hand and discover a new lifelong skill

This invaluable workshop provides the knowledge to mend your damaged clothes in a creative and personalised style. A great way to extend the life of your favourite wardrobe items!

In this 2-hour session you will learn how to

  • Assess the damaged area and understand the fabric you’re about to mend
  • Identify suitable, complementary fabric to patch the damaged area
  • Prepare the area to be stitched, ensuring durability and movement to the garment
  • Future-proof your garments for lifelong wear with this newfound skill.
£25 per person

For ages 15 and above, no previous skills required.

All tools and equipment are provided, including mending examples and a selection of beautiful vintage fabrics, but if you have something you want to mend, please bring it! Please do not bring waterproof materials, leather, suede or knitwear. Please also feel free to bring your own needles, threads, embroidery hoops, scissors or fabrics.

Places will be limited and are filling up quickly, so please contact the museum if you would like to book. Telephone: 01258 450388 Email: contact@blandfordtownmuseum.org.uk

The workshop will be presented by Thea Batty, a curator, educator, and fashion repair specialist based in North Dorset. Visit www.theabatty.com/ for more information about Thea and her mission to challenge unethical labour practices in the fashion and textile industry.

There will be the option to purchase one of Thea’s new Visible Mending kits, beautifully curated with vintage fabrics, threads, tools and a colourful guidebook.
