Recent figures regarding recycling show ONLY 9% gets recycled! 12% is burned and the remaining 79% gets put in landfills either here; but more likely sent to the global south :( which is already drowing in our waste! How awful is this? I looked on dorset for you recycling page for more info & it only says plastic gets sent to a depot in Wales & a whopping 90% of textile waste gets sent abroad. I emailed them for more info as to what happens once it gets to Wales, but no reply. They have since ,of course, declared a climate emergency and might take our queries as to the facts a bit more seriously! I think the good people of Dorset, who painstakingly & conscientiously seperate their refuse & recycle in good faith, thinking they are helping the planet, deserve to know the truth as to where their rubbish ends up. Shall we as both PS & XR put some pressure on the Council?

Hi just wanted to say how lovely it was to meet you all yesterday 💗 i have an idea that might suit planet Shaftesbury as well as xr , there is a global strike for climate on May 24 . Perhaps we could recreate this kind of action in our town that bath XR are doing today ? They are meeting up in bath city centre at 1.30 pm then separating out as individuals or small groups to mingle throughout the city centre. Then at 2 pm they get out their leaflets , talk to strangers , raise their banners , hold up theirs placards &regroup at the arranged meeting place in the centre for around 3 pm to create a collective non violent presence . i will get this up on both facebooks too . Any takers txt / email me or find me on insta @xrshaftesbury , katiekazoo71@gmail.com 07876690006

Hi, I read on the extinction rebellion newsletter they want volunteers, full time , 20 hours a week or one day a week . I’m thinking of volunteering myself and wondered if anyone else in Shaftesbury is thinking of / already doing the same . I’m not sure what I could actually help with whilst living in Shaftesbury but in the past I have worked as a teacher , in sales & marketing and also worked for a charity a long while ago setting up their social media platform . Anyway I hope they can find something for me to do , even if it’s stuffing envelopes 😂 I’m really excited to hear that Shaftesbury is getting involved with extinction rebellion in terms of having an affiliated group and I think we especially need youth group or something for the older school kids who are thinking of taking action, boycotting fast fashion with XR52 / school strike action etc and need some kind of base . If anyone here in Shaftesbury is already volunteering their time to extinction rebellion I’d love to hear back from you either here or find me on Instagram @mumsyrichards 💗 Kate xxx

Just been watching the live stream of parliament voting on climate emergency after Labour called for the vote - and the live stream of extinction rebellion speakers who are right now outside Parliament - government have just PASSED the vote to declare a Climate & Ecological Emergency . If you can watch the extinction rebellion live stream on Instagram this evening ( it might be Facebook too but I dont think so ) it’s incredibly moving watch history unfolding like this and Jeremy C is coming on as a speaker shortly 💚👏

Hi , I’m Kate , I didn’t realise Shaftesbury had a group like this until seeing the demo near my house on the 20 th April and looking for you on Instagram . I‘m not sure if you are following the progress of extinction rebellion & XR Youth on Instagram but today XR released a phase 2 of action , I am assuming as the meeting with Michael Gove did not go as well as hoped and obviously Theresa May, true to form, has yet again remained conspicuous in her absence . XR is now calling for a 52 week boycott on fast fashion ( using the hashtag #XR52 ) and is calling on all people to commit to buying no new clothes for at least a year until 30 April 2020, ( second hand clothes are obviously fine & please look for ethical options for things like underwear ) - to quote the latest @xrbristol Instagram post “in a global economic strike against the fashion industry in addition to mass direct action against fast fashion retailers .” They are asking everyone to stop buying new clothes and asking us to encourage friends & family to do the same . To vote with our ££! I already only buy second hand clothes for myself , and no longer have a car just a bike and am vegan . I think these are sacrifices we can all make / begin to make quite easily . Anyway I just wanted to come on & let you know about #XR52 and to say hello! I‘m looking forward to coming along to your next meeting. See you soon , Kate
