A friend put me on to making 'ecobricks' by stuffing a two-litre plastic bottle full with clean, dry, non-recyclable plastics (e.g. empty crisp packets, tops off veg trays etc.) until it is solid - takes quite a long time! - and then apparently it can be used to build a wall with. Then the friend told me that the friend who told her about it doesn't know where to deliver them to! Does anyone know of someone in our area who is collecting them as it seems like a good idea to me? Would anyone like to join me in drawing Tesco's attention to the blue plastic gloves at their petrol station? I'm told that their customers have wanted them to be provided for the past 30 years, but as I pointed out to the deputy manager in the Shaftesbury branch, they should not be available any more as 1. they are made of single-use plastic and 2. they blow about all over the place (I've found them lying several streets away). Recently I picked up six gloves from the forecourt and on Christy's Lane and took them in to give them to the young man at the kiosk. I explained that they go down the storm drains, into the rivers, into the sea and into marine animals. He looked a bit surprised, but I think if more people talked about this the more Tesco and perhaps the Esso garage which provides the gloves as well might listen and do something. If a person wants to wear a glove when they're filling up, they should carry a box of the things in their car, I think. I belong to the Hilltop Litterpickers (we meet in the Tesco lay by almost opposite the petrol station on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 2.30 pm - equipment is provided) and I know many of our members are concerned about this issue too.
