I have just read this document. Very long but comprehensive, and identifies clearly the gap between what the council must achieve against governmental policy that travels in a different direction.

What an opportunity to reconsider how we do things and whether we really do need to do all this flying. Folk seem to be more interested in how to increase our recycling ( great) but less inclined to miss out on air journeys both short and long. (less great). Just watch the airline industry put pressure on the government for rescue packages, and just lets see the government succumb to big business, despite environmental pledges.

Can anyone help me on 12th June looking after the Planet Shaftesbury table at the Civic Society event in the town hall. 9.00 am set up, then on to 1.00 pm. I don't think I can do it on my own for all that time. Also has anyone any material I can put on the table?

last week Rachel and I had a session with our MP .We discussed our concerns about climate change and advised him about Planet Shaftesbury and associated activities. We emphasised our beliefs that this is a cross party issue,and he agreed. He comments that legislation and statutory instruments do not themselves change behaviour, but seemed sympathetic to the idea that we are all responsible for our futures. He has connections in the farming world and has given us a contact for a future speaker. He expressed interest in attending one of our meetings.
