I'm keen to get feedback on these initial thoughts about Planet Shaftesbury's monthly meeting on 21st March. Please use this forum to comment.
How would YOU feel about an earlier start so that we have some informal time before the main meeting - say an hour from 6.45-7.45pm? Perhaps those of us with a special interest in waste reduction, biodiversity loss, home energy use, water, transport, health / wellbeing, housing, the economy, food or whatever could set up (from 6.30pm) tables to display information about the ongoing lifestyle changes involved in recognising the challenges we face. We wouldn't need a lot to prompt useful conversations. And 'food' could include contributions we might share. And parents or grandparents could bring children along for this part of the evening.
Main focus - planning for a week of activity in April? The following monthly meeting falls on 18th April, in the middle of an international week of action called by Extinction Rebellion. The climate emergency will be in the news. Would YOU like that week to be a week for raising awareness here in Shaftesbury? Could we have information widely available that week? How could we be more visible? Could we create some kind of happening (street theatre, procession, ceremony …) on a day during the week of action? Of course we'd each work in ways that we, as individuals and groups, are comfortable with and that are appropriate for the Shaftesbury area. Does planning for this seem appropriate for the time from 8pm onwards?
