Diana Harris and I met Simon Hoare to raise concerns about the climate emergency and lack of urgency in responding to it much earlier this year. He was keen to turn our attention to things that the government had done (for example in the area of single-use plastics) and several times affirmed his faith in 'the market' to adapt to changing needs (in spite of the fact that future generations don't have any market power). I hope he's able to offer more hope to those who meet him tomorrow evening! I've sent my apologies as I'll be elsewhere.
I went with Phyllis Wolff over a year ago and he was speaking on the same lines. When I mentioned the word 'capitalism' that was the end of the interview. I said I didn't think that economic system had the answers and in fact it is the main cause of the mess we are in! He does not subscribe to that point of view.
What a surprise!!
I will be there tomorrow evening with a print out of his voting record and the letter I sent him that he didn't reply to despite it being all my own work and not a mass petition that he ignores on principle
