About the Event
This meeting is taking place during the period of national mourning following the Queen's passing and will start with a silent reflection.
The meeting follows on from the 'Shaftesbury 2030: Choosing our future' event that took place at Shafesbury School in May. That evening started a conversation about what we (individuals, households, businesses, community groups) might choose to do differently to ensure that Shaftesbury becomes more sustainable by 2030. It also asked:'How can the Shaftesbury area support us to make these sustainable choices?'
The meeting takes place during an informative display at the library. Visitors are invited to think about actions they want to take and the information they need to support them. A questionnaire will find out what sort of questions people have.
A similar display will be on show during this session at the Town Hall. Whatever your circumstances and previous connection to Planet Shaftesbury, the changing climate will affect you and people close to you. This evening meeting provides an opportunity to explore the support you need, or the support you can offer, from the many different perspectives of those who come along. It can help to shape the next steps for the town.
Many towns and cities already have, or are establishing, a climate emergency centre to support change in their local community - sometimes described as 'solutions centres for community resilience'. Bridport has established a website (Bridport Climate Response) to meet local people's information needs. How can Planet Shaftesbury support our town with locally specific relevant information? If relevant information was available, how can it be made accessible? A website, an occasional surgery or advice session, a hub in underused premises? How could we get started?
We continue to be cautious about Covid, please stay away if you are unwell or have tested positive and respect one another's space. We'll keep the room ventilated and mask-wearing is optional. Meeting will start at 7.30.
